Sound of Football Podcast 378 - Philosophical football

Football and philosophy should be a perfect combination. Given the number of volumes devoted to trying to find meaning in results and performances, football should be a fertile ground for those who like to think about thinking.

Philosopher Stephen Mumford is Professor of Metaphysics at Durham University but he's also a Sheffield United fan. He joins us on the show to discuss his new book Football: The Philosophy Behind the Game that looks at what makes football what it is, and to provide answers to questions surrounding the game at the moment. Questions like why do some people have such a problem with women playing the game and is VAR anti-football?

Also in this summer special, Graham talks about his experience amongst the England fans in Portugal as he followed the finals of the Nations League.
