Sound Of Football Podcast 160 - Qatar Ye Not?

This week Gary Andrews joins Terry Duffelen and Graham Sibley and Jan Bilton take a short break to discuss the latest issues surrounding the 2022 World Cup.

Gary and Terry reflect upon recent revelations from the Guardian regarding the migrant workers in Qatar. Should the tournament be moved to another country? What would be the ramifications of it moving to winter?

Inevitably, however, the mood is lightened and they ponder the possibilities of Barry Hearn's FIFA Presidency and England winning the World Cup but nobody noticed.

You blokes slightly lost the plot towards the end there. You need to have a third person to steady the tiller or perhaps steady the intake of yeasty libations?

Anyway WC2022 in Qatar always was a crazy idea. If they had shared it out with other Gulf states - that might have worked but on its own the tournament is a disaster waiting to happen.

Just on size and population alone the statelet cannot realistically support such a tournament - it is smaller than for example the Sydney metro area on both counts (11600sqkm/1.9mil vs12150sqkm/4.6mil).

Plus nobody has asked questions like "where are they going to get enough quality players from in order to put up a decent show"?
