Season's Greetings once again from the Sound of Football Podcast team!

And for this special festive podcast, Jan, Graham and Terry welcome back former pod stalwart, Chris Oakley to host our discussion on short format football. Will soccer ever try to create a credible 'small' version of itself to match 20/20 cricket or rugby sevens? Does 6-a-side or Futsal fill that void?

With the first legs of all the last eight World Cup play-offs completed we look ahead to the final show-downs to decide who goes to Brazil 2014.

Of course, by the time you listen to this everything may have changed (though it's really unlikely New Zealand will see the benefit of their away goal) but as usual our shallow knowledge and out-dated preconceptions add a bit of colour to the subject.

Match day 10 of Sound Of Football Top Trumps sees Jan going for a record breaking five wins in a row - can Terry or you, the listeners stop him from running away with it?

We also have enough time for Jan to bask in the reflected glory of a local derby win and Terry to ponder the recent goings-on at Selhurst Park.

Sound Of Football Podcast 162 - Home Nation

Is an England player an English player? While most level-headed people saw Smokin' Jack Wilshere's comments on Englishness as a harmless opinion rather than a political statement, it hasn't stopped us stroking our chins and discussing the issue of choosing to play for a country other than the one of your birth.

Match day 7 of Sound Of Football Top Trumps sees Jan taking his first pick of the game while Graham tries to desperately hang in the game on the strength of his final card. Nail-biting stuff.

Sound Of Football Podcast 157 - Dyke's dislikes

The FA's chairman, Greg Dyke, gave a speech last week outlining exactly why English players are so rubbish. Nothing he said was too shocking apart from the fact it was someone at the FA saying it. If you haven't seen or heard the speech you can read it here or watch it here first - or you just jump straight in to the podcast below and listen to us talk about it.
